Understanding Traditional Blackjack
Since a War Wager is an optional side bet that has to be accompanied by a regular Blackjack bet, it’s important to understand how to play this popular card game. Blackjack starts with each player receiving two cards and the dealer getting one up card. Once the War Wager has been settled with the first card, the dealer will give you another card to add to your Blackjack hand.
While the objective in a War Wager is to get the highest card, in traditional Blackjack, you have to aim to reach 21 points or close and avoid going over. Each card from two to 10 is worth the indicated value, and the Ace card can be valued at either one or 11. You win the game if your hand is closer to 21 points than the dealer and other players.
How to Play War Blackjack
War Blackjack is an optional side bet that is placed during a regular game of Blackjack. As such, it begins with you making a Blackjack bet and an optional War Wager that can be any amount subject to the table limits. The dealer will give you one card face up, which will be your war card. The card will also be used as your first Blackjack hand, and it goes up against the dealer’s up card.
These two cards determine the Blackjack war side bet, and the highest card between you and the dealer wins. Ace is considered the lowest card in War Blackjack and plays as one. Other cards are ranked according to poker values.
The dealer wins all tie bets in War Blackjack. If you win the War Wager, you can choose between two options. You can either take the original bet plus the winnings or only collect the original bet and place the winnings on a new wager by adding it to the Blackjack hand. Afterward, the Blackjack hand plays out following traditional Blackjack rules.
